Ed Tonk Smelters Haven to Artists Rest

Newcastle — Pub and railway historian and local author Ed Tonks has forwarded some details regarding the little-known Railway Hotel at Killingworth (22km west of Newcastle). Ed has covered this pub in his book Smelters’ Haven to Artist’s Rest. The hotel only traded as the Railway for about a year from November 1891, before being renamed as the Killingworth Hotel. Ed’s book is available from www.edtonks.com.au.
